For some reason, this has been a hugely successful year for me.
Only, once again, it’s been completely different from anything I could ever have imagined. I’ve managed to find a place for my label, studio and workshops. A place that’s all mine. I’ve been doing nothing else since January, and now, just in time for my birthday, it’s all sorted. UNBELIEVABLE! I’ve published loads of articles this year, none of which have anything to do with music, but they’re read very often. I’m telling you, the world is changing – mine certainly has. Somehow it’s unsettling and hard to grasp. Nevertheless, I’ve started writing and rehearsing new songs. The only thing that isn’t working out well is live music. Aus irgendeinem Grund war das ein super erfolgreiches Jahr für mich.
Nur wieder vollkommen anders, als ich nur ansatzweise erwartet habe. Ich habe es geschafft, einen Platz für mein Label, Atelier und die Werkstätten zu finden. Einen Platz, der mir gehört. Seit Januar mache ich nichts anderes, und jetzt, pünktlich zu meinem Geburtstag, ist das alles geschafft. UNGLAUBLICH! Ich habe Unmengen Texte publiziert dieses Jahr, die alle nichts mit Musik zu tun haben, aber sehr oft gelesen werden. Ich sage euch, die Welt ändert sich, meine hat es schon. Irgendwie ist es verstörend und schwer zu begreifen. Trotzdem habe ich angefangen, neue Lieder zu schreiben und einzuüben. Das Einzige, was nicht gut funktioniert, ist Livemusik. Da fehlt mir gerade schlicht die Muse. Langweilig ist es mir nicht.

To make a very long story short, there is software that can do this, but ninety-nine percent of it is inaccessible with NVDA (my screen reader). The one program that is, Audacity, is far too complicated for me to understand. I found some sites with sliders, but even they didnt read out what they were, leaving me confused and annoyed. So after months of getting nowhere, I decided to write my own program. This is actually becoming quite popular in the blind community, so I thought why not try it? I named it Otello, both to honour Francesco Tamagno, the quality of whose recordings started me on this journey, and because I felt like some kind of a warrior while doing this. Below are some essential facts from the help file.

"***Important Notes
1. This program was made with Windows Forms and was written in C#. It was created with Perplexity. I myself am not a programmer and know nothing about code. However, I tested each and every feature before releasing this to you. So I know that it works and that it is safe.
2. This is a portable program. It will not be installed on your machine. Simply run Otello.exe and it will start. If you delete the folder, it's gone. However, it does require Microsoft .Net Framework 4.8, which can be downloaded from their site.
3. While this program was created with artificial intelligence, it is not used in the processing of the files. Otello is simply an equaliser. At best, it can help reveal features that exist in recordings which may be difficult to hear due to the original recording technology. It does not technically add anything to them. Therefore, it may work better on some types of recordings than others i.e. electric versus acoustic.***

This program works on Windows 7 and later, on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. However, it was specifically made for Windows 7.

General Purpose
Otello is a simple, screen reader-accessible audio equaliser. It is designed so that anyone, including those with no knowledge of technical terms and frequency numbers (I'm among them), can use it to change the sound of recordings. If you've used the sliders on a stereo or the knobs on a mixer, this should be easy. If you're used to controling the sound on an original acoustic machine, you're a genius and this should be very easy!"

It’s beyond unfortunate that all that stuff happened with Ken Stringfellow.

And particularly heartbreaking for ME.
The Posies meant an AWFUL lot to me when I was a kid, & despite all of the allegations against him, they still are.
Particularly Frosting On The Beater.

Jon and Ken made beautiful music together, and it was a shame to see it all end (rightfully so, probably) and have Jon decide that their friendship was over (again, rightfully so).

However, I will never let those things affect my love for the music they made together.
If you’re that kind of person, go throw your Zeppelin, Floyd, Elvis, Beatles and Who records in the trash too.

This is their last REALLY good record; better than a few that came before, and one that captured some of the old magic.

The bevy of extra material is fantastic & ULTRA brown, just how it should be.

This has always been my dark horse nominee for the best Ween album (slightly behind White Pepper).

The fact that Ween are using some of the most legendary & accomplished country musicians in music history is delicious.
And THREE of them were named Buddy. 😂
