ANDY WHITE
Rave On Andy White
1986 Germany pressing
A bit of a Friday “power of suggestion” post.
I think it was @ironmanrecords who posted this not too long ago, and I was very pleased to see it. It reminded me that it’d been a while since I heard it.
If you’re unfamiliar with Andy White, he is an incredibly talented Northern Irish poet, author and singer/songwriter who wields a familiar and comforting brand of #folk -y rock.
Rave On was his very first full-length, and since then, has put out a SLEW of exceptional records.
He’s worked with TONS of notable artists and musicians over the years, including Peter Gabriel, so that should give you a clue as to how well respected he is.
Melodic and understated acoustic storytelling of the highest quality. His voice is never overpowering or theatrical, just gentle and conversational, like he’s telling you and you alone a story directly.
❤️❤️

This song is interesting because it starts out one way and you expect a pretty standard pop track, then by the end of the chorus it turns into this funk soul type groove, pretty awesome.

TORTOISE
Touch
2025 U.S. pressing
Great way to get my Friday going, & one of my absolute favorite records of last year.
To me, it’s always astonishing when a band makes what very well may be one of their best records so deep into their career.
Tortoise has been at it so long, and for my own personal tastes, I haven’t been much of a fan of what they’ve been doing their last few records.
To me, Touch is right next to the albums that made me fall in love with them in the beginning. Records like Millions Now Living Will Never Die, the self-titled, and TNT.
There’s a sense of cinematic adventure here, and for me, interstellar miles more engaging than their last record The Catastrophist. The members of Tortoise live in three different U.S. cities now, which changed their process of developing songs.
More of whatever that process is, please.
Worth every bit of your time.
Wonderful record.

Heads-up folks: Volume II by Angine de Poitrine is out now, and it is suuuuuuper weird. Good stuff. #music
#Music has never fit comfortably into our systems and structures. It’s a tough job. It’s often more than a hobby. It takes huge amounts of effort, not commensurate with the rewards most of the time.
3. SF9 - Good Guy https://youtu.be/n8zQysKciao
cw: Yoo Taeyang's stupidly pretty face
CC in 16 tracks, incl ENG
OT9 doing sports in suits because of course they are. Such rude attractiveness.
And then there's the Japanese version which is even more unfairly attractive because the MV is almost entirely performance: https://youtu.be/LswOtwkLEAI (cw: flashing)
4. SEVENTEEN - Fallin' Flower https://youtu.be/u4iDL3c0T1c
cw: lens flares, flashing
Welcome to Missing OT13 Hour. The alliteration only works for the English title (the original Japanese title is 舞い落ちる花びら), but they use both titles, so shhhh, just watch the pretty boys in fairy-like landscapes
[impatient waiting for the return of Jeonghan, Wonwoo, Hoshi, and Woozi intensifies]
5. TXT - SSS (Sending Secret Signals) feat. HYDE https://youtu.be/vlmXpQOE75c
cw: animated flashing
CC in 6 tracks, incl ENG
Yet another meeting of the Jrock and Kpop worlds smashing into each other in the most delightful way. I think this means TXT are now Hyde's kids (oh no).
1. ATEEZ - Dreamy Day (SoundBOMB360 ver) https://youtu.be/DA6_FvpZT4Y
cw: 360 audio, softest Mother
CC in 16 tracks, incl ENG
All of them are so soft and fluffy in this, fitting for the dreamy fluffiness of the song. Need a hug for your ears? Give this song a try.
You *can* listen to this over speaker, but it's *better* with headphones/earbuds.
2. Yesung (SuJu) x SURAN - Still Standing (audio only) https://youtu.be/GSqR-HZ_C1s
There's a "live" version of this, but I think Yesung was dealing with some undisclosed health issues at the time cuz he sounds...off. So. Studio audio it is.
And if you think this sounds like an OST, that could be because Suran is an OST queen - she's done quite a few of them over the many years since her debut.
Maybe unpopular music take: I wish after the intro from Welcome To The Jungle they wouldn't play Welcome To The Jungle. The intro guitar and base lines are so fast and high energy and then the put on the breaks and it gets boring. For me it would be so cool if they kept the energy from the first few seconds going.
Bye bye Spotify, Øy has left the building.
Øy's music is still on the other platforms, but if you want to support independent artists and experimentation, the best way is to buy a vinyl at Tiger (worldwide shipping) or Bandcamp, or the digital album from Bandcamp or @mirlo

These are weird times to navigate, both as someone who makes music, and for those who listens.
Don't tune out and let the algorithm control you, tune in and take back control.
I'm seriously wondering what folks use for pianos. Either a lot of these vst's arn't accessible, not good enough, just to cluddered etc.
Abletons internal stuff is quite literally trash, and ableton packs, even with the most beautiful pianos have realism limitations.
Any thoughts, experiences?

They used to play this at the skating rink back in the 70s, turn down the lights, and then clear the floor of everyone except for "couples only." #nostalgia #music
I gotta say, the new Paul song is just so beautiful. Really fuckin me up.

fallgrapp — anthropos
style • 3/5 • moody, consistent, melancholic, but not really a standout, just sadgirl*sadboy XXX music.
substance • 2/5 • nothing stands out, but some lyrics do feel a little too cute.
oomph • some breakdowns. couldn't tell you which ones though. nebo?
Pictures at an Exhibition performed live by Emerson, Lake & Palmer was the album that brought me back to classical music at about age 15.
Written for the #piano, it was famously orchestrated by #Ravel. I've heard it performed once and have several versions on mp3. Perennial favorite! 👍
At the top level it is Mussorgsky's emotional journey as he walks around an exhibition of artwork by his recently deceased friend Viktor Hartmann. But there are captions for most/all of the works, so it is also a recursive tale with stories within stories. 🙂
Some of the original art is lost, so the musical renditions are all we have left. 🙁

JORGEN INGMANN
Apache
1961 Canada pressing
Jorgen Ingmann was Danish.
Yup.
Danish.
A Dane.
Quite the Dane he was.
NOT INDIAN.
Like… at all.
O.K.
Now that we got the awkward album cover discussion out of the way, I do love this record.
Ingmann was a cool guitar player.
Starting with playing #jazz in the 40s, he also developed his own recording equipment which made it possible to record his bat-shit crazy guitar sound.
He also was the head of the Danish (no thanks I had a donut with breakfast) branch of the Metronome label.
Musically, though, he’s most remembered for his cover of “Apache” (originally recorded by The Shadows), & to a lesser extent, a song called “Dansevise”, a song which won he & his wife Grethe the 1963 Eurovision contest.
He had many more hits in Germany, but let’s not spend any more time on the Germans.
They know what they did.
Overall, a really fun record.

TEX RITTER
Blood On The Saddle
1960 Canada MONO pressing
Unequivocally one of my all-time favorite old school #country albums. And I would say that about the album cover as well.
I’ve mentioned numerous times on here that I developed my love for classic country and western as a kid from my uncles.
My Uncle Alfio was the one responsible for first playing me Tex Ritter, and Blood On The Saddle was ground zero.
The title track is one of the great songs of all time.
It is simultaneously grisly and horrific, but also unbelievably hilarious. Not written by Ritter, but certainly popularized by him.
The album takes off from there, and your smile never wanes until the record’s over.
It’s just so friggin good.

style • 5/5 • perfect night time pop. every time this record plays, it’s like laying there by an open window on a summer night.
substance • 5/5 • while the lyrics are universal, abstract, and spacious, they are also incredibly specific. small things, little anxieties, all feel overwhelming and relatable; happy and sad.
oomph • i don't have to exist outside this place.
