As a little kid in the I passed on thinking they always sounded like their song Iris or Slide, neither of which I liked.

Rewatching an episode of Beavis and Butthead the other day, they played a great track off A Boy Named Goo.

Y'all, that album is a banger!

"The Roland TR-808 was officially in production for just two years—from 1980 to 1982. Around 12,000 units were manufactured [...]

The TR-808 started to look like its time had come and gone. But ironically, its premature demise was merely the beginning."

This morning's is from Tobias Freund & Max Loderbauer doing an extended improvisation in the tradition of Klaus Schulze or early .
Makes me wish and I had a set up like this and glad I don't have a set up like this at the same time. Great stuff.

One of our boutique record labels is launching a new venture in an effort to keep jazz and blues music before the public and make money for its artists.

As I launch our new label, Mapleshade Recordings, my goal is to adapt to the digital landscape. We are currently focusing on preserving, restoring, and digitally releasing projects via high-resolution downloads, though we may consider physical formats again in the future. Because streaming subscription services yield virtually no earnings for our musicians and label, I invite you to support our artists by purchasing downloads directly from our Bandcamp page. mapleshaderecordings.bandcamp.

I seem to have skipped my annual Pearl Jam session this summer. There's still time. Frankly, Hanging Garden threw me for a loop and I've been enjoying them too much.

                          Self-Titled Saturday | Pearl Jam (2006, US)

For our next STS 2.0 spotlight, we’re going to take a look at number 1076 on The List, submitted by gavin57. Technically an album without a title, this is the eighth studio album from one of the seminal (and longest running) bands of Seattle’s so-called “grunge” scene. Lyrics touch on anger and frustration about a warmonger being re-elected, mourning friends, and living in scary times (any of that sound familiar?). As Pearl Jam has never been a band to shy away from activism and addressing real issues, the then current US-led war on Iraq is a topic of three songs. One such song is "Army Reserve", which was co-written by Damien Echols of the West Memphis Three while he was on death row for crimes he didn't commit.

This is my latest album. This one was a cross-continental collaboration between ABOOMBONG and DYNAMO STAIRS (David Liso, who sang on Agnosis). It was created out of flotsam from across the years that had accumulated from previous aboombong sessions. I needed another mind to pull them together. David helps out again on the new album along with a new collaborator -Gnash.

I’ve found out that some of the computer programs originally written for John Cage’s musical experiments with chance, aleatorics, and non-serialism are still available online (albeit as shareware). Running them is just a matter of configuring DOSBox. It feels like opening a well-sealed time capsule with the contents preserved.
