                  MIKE D
                  Thank You
                  2026 Europe Ltd. Edition pressing
                  Purple vinyl

Words cannot adequately describe how much I love this new Mike D album.
                  It’s fucking AWESOME.

As somebody who has been mainlining The Beastie Boys since the late 80’s, this album absolutely made my heart soar.

Knowing that SOME member of the Beasties is still out there, making fresh, exciting, and vital music for today and now is a very reassuring and glorious thing.

This is a much more contemporary and dare I say…stranger? kind of music than the Beasties.

Creating with his two sons by his side, this is what’s been described as “post-electronic” groove album. However, it’s way more than that.

                  It’s , it’s , , glitchy electronica… it’s amazing.

A million thank yous to Mike D’s sons, who got him out of the sadness from Yauch, and back to making music.

Here's the video version of my song about Shmuley Boteach a.k.a. Rabbi Buttplug:

                    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

                    A Rabbi With a Buttplug

                    [Verse 1]
A buttplug-selling rabbi, so they say
Knows every leader in the world today
With a wink and a nod, he walks the halls of power
From Washington to Warsaw, every gilded tower

                    [Pre-Chorus]
You’d think the lines would all be clear
                    But somehow they just disappear

                    [Chorus]
Tell me how, tell me why
A rabbi with a buttplug reaches the sky
From the shadows deep, to the seats of might
He’s laughing in the velvet light

                    [Verse 2]
The guardians of the old “family way”
Still pull up chairs and let him stay
                    A smirk, a schmooze, a practiced grin
He works the room he’s always in
In marble halls where old alliances are planned
With a smirk, a shtick, and a dildo in his hand
The loudest voices drawing lines in white
Still toast his name in velvet light

                    [Pre-Chorus]
You try to map what’s wrong or right
But truth gets lost in who they invite

                    [Chorus]
Tell me how, tell me why
A rabbi with a buttplug reaches the sky
From the shadows deep, to the seats of might
He’s laughing in the velvet light

                    [Bridge]
He knows the rhythm, he knows the doors
He counts the names behind the scores
He walks the space where faith and theater meet
Where influence and image secretly greet

                    [Final Chorus]
Tell me how, tell me why
A rabbi with a buttplug reaches the sky
From the shadows deep, to the seats of might
Still laughing in that velvet light

                      Lake Trump

                      [Verse 1]
There's a Big Beautiful Bill floating by the shore
With a tax cut for the rich and a deficit galore
They said it would make America wealthy as a thump—
Now it's bobbing like a turd in Lake Trump

                      [Pre-Chorus]
Come take a little cruise, folks, there's plenty more to see
The water's getting murky, but the view is tax-free
So grab your life preserver and leave your conscience in the trunk—
The tour is just beginning on the shores of Lake Trump!

                      [Chorus]
                      Welcome to Lake Trump
A place where every scummy jew has taken a dump
Its conent is like holy water to the MAGA chump
                      Welcome to Lake Trump
Where they came to drain the swamp and somehow made it a sump

                      [Verse 2]
He changed the Gulf, he changed the lake
And now New Mexico's at stake
Pretty soon the moon will get a Trumpian bump—
They'll call it “The Donald” when it rises over Lake Trump
The rent is going up, the price of gas has hit the sky
But Grandpa's waving proudly as the garbage floats by
He can't afford his medicine, but he's cheering with a thump—
“Who needs affordable living? We've got Lake Trump!”

                      [Chorus]
                      Welcome to Lake Trump
A place where every scummy jew has taken a dump

This is the story of Sedna, Goddess of the Sea and Marine Animals.

Do yourself a favour and take 30 minutes. Grab a pair of headphones, chastise anyone away and just take it in.

This is my detox. It's also among the most amazing piece of music, soundscape and storytelling I know.

It was composed and features environmental sounds recorded by Derek Charke (Canada) and the strings are from the Kronos Quartet (US).
Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq (Canada) provides her other-worldy vocals. Finally, Kalaaleq artist Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory (Greenland) brings the narrative.

It's not quite suitable for children.

Artwork by Antony Galbraith for Fine Art America. Watercolour painting. Sedna is a young Inuk woman looking straight at us. Her face has distinct Inuit tattoos and she looks powerful. Her hair is long and flowing in the colours of the ocean from which marine animals emerge. This picture and article reminds me of the brilliant Steve McQueen movie Lovers Rock, part of his excellent “Small Axe” anthology of five films depicting the lives of immigrants in London in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

Revisiting an absolute classic for breakfast.

One of the 1st truly great albums of the , regardless of genre.

A warm, funky, organic neo-soul record for the ages.
It fits right next to Deangelo’s Voodoo, & to be honest, it’s hard for me to hear THIS album without immediately wanting to put Voodoo on next.

If you want total freedom in life, then you gotta leave a lot of shit behind.
How willing are you to let things go?
How free do you wanna be?

These are the questions I was forced to think about when I first heard this record when I was 23 and living in NYC.

The bass and drums on this record will always be my favorite thing about it, ESPECIALLY the drums.

They’re kinda dusty, dull-edged, but still very dynamic and human sounding.

                                          Just an incredible 72 minutes.

Three new recorder students today. After all these years teaching I still get nervous about new students! But they are all lovely people and the lessons were fine. In a funny coincidence, one is starting on soprano, one on alto and one on tenor recorder.
